Pool chlorine and salt systems in the UAE
This page is about sanitiser for swimming pools: chlorine dosing, salt-chlorine generators, and why a reading will not hold when circulation is weak. It is not a general building disinfection or fogging page, and it does not replace those chlorine-disinfection articles. The goal is usable pool water after a visit, not a branded chemical package sold sight unseen.

Reading swimming pool water before dosing
What we actually adjust
Free chlorine and pH
Read on a meter at the basin. We do not promise one ratio for every pool.
Salt cell if fitted
Scale on plates and a tired cell look like “no chlorine” while the pump is fine.
Runtime first
Dosing into standing water wastes product and still leaves algae.
Heat and bather load
Midday UAE sun and a weekend party change how fast a residual drops.
Not this page: House or tank chlorine disinfection is a different service. This article stays with swimming pool water and pool salt systems.
Visit sequence
1 Read the water
Colour, smell, chlorine, pH and a look at the filter pressure.
2 Check the feeder or cell
Empty floater, closed valve, or a salt cell coated in scale.
3 Restore circulation
Baskets and filter often matter more than another jug of product.
4 Dose to the reading
Amount follows volume and the meter, not a social-media recipe.
5 Explain the next days
How long to run the pump and when a re-read is useful.

Pool surface after water is brought back into range
Chlorine versus salt
| System | What it needs | Common confusion |
|---|---|---|
| Manual or feeder chlorine | Runtime and a correct pH | More product will not fix a blocked filter |
| Salt generator | Clean cell, enough salt, good flow | Low chlorine is often a dirty cell, not “bad salt” |
| Stabiliser in outdoor pools | A reading, not endless topping | Too much stabilizer can lock chlorine |
Tip: Send a photo of the water and of the salt-cell box if you have one. That is enough to say whether the visit is chemistry or a cell clean.
